About Me

I write because I must, but why for children? They are the most magical audience in the world. They’re naturally curious and they keep wonder alive for all of us… if we let them. I want them to know that the extraordinary is as real as the ordinary, and never farther than the turn of a page or perspective.

I cherished my books as a child and continually add to my overflowing bookshelves. I hope the books I write spark joy, and comfort for next generations, as all the books I have do for me.

I grew up in San Francisco and live there still, but I have lived other places and traveled widely. I have a BA in psychology (concentration in child psychology) from Scripps College, and an MA in Ethnomusicolinguistics from New York University. I made my career writing in branding and advertising agencies. I’ve mentored many young writers and taught writing in advertising school. As a grammar stickler, I started the editing & proofreading department for an ad agency.

I’m a member of SCBWI, 12×12 Challenge, the Writing Barn’s Courage to Create, among other kidlit communities and programs. And I’ve served on several nonprofit boards in music education and nature conservation.
